Problems Sending Email
Applies to: Users of hosted email running an email client, such as Micrsoft Outlook, on their PC computer

If your email doesn't leave your Outbox and/or your mail client gives you an error message such as the following:
The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'mail.servupro.com', Server: 'mail.servupro.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10065, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E
As the error message indicates, this is likely a communication error between your computer and our mail server. Assuming you're able to receive mail (if not, you might have a problem with your Internet connection; in that case, check your connections and/or contact your ISP), this can be caused by a firewall issue; in some cases, your ISP might be blocking Port 25, the TCP/IP port that is necessary to send email.

Troubleshooting
  1. Check your Internet connection. If you can't view web pages in your browser, check your connection settings and your cables.
  2. Check your mail settings. The article How To - Setting Up Email in Outlook 2003 may be helpful.
  3. Can you send mail? If the answer is yes, then most likely your ISP is blocking Port 25.

Testing Port 25

To be sure that is the cause of your problem, do the following:

  1. Bring up a Command Prompt. If you're using Windows XP: Click Start -> Run, then type cmd and press enter; Windows Vista Users: Click Start, then type cmd in the search box and press enter.
  2. Type telnet mail.servupro.com 25 and press enter.
  3. Afterwards, you should see something like "220 mail.servupro.com" on the screen. If the curson just flashes for more than 10 seconds, then Port 25 is being blocked.
  4. Go ahead and close the Command Prompt window.
Resolution
  • Contact your ISP and ask them to unblock Port 25. Sometimes ISPs block Port 25 as an anti-spam measure.
  • Check your Firewall settings and make sure Port 25 is open. If you're connecting through a LAN, contact the System Adminstrator for assistance.
  • You may also relay your mail through another mail server, such as one setup by your ISP or the regular users of the LAN. In this case, change your Outgoing Server (SMTP) settings appropriately.
Important Note: Relaying mail through another mail server may cause your messages to be filtered as spam on the recipient's mail server.
