How To - Setting Up Email on iPhone

Applies to: Hosted email (both Windows Hosting and Linux Hosting)

Important Note: Using these settings will not sync your Contacts or Calendars.

Configuring iPhone or iTouch
The following will allow you to retrieve or sync your email on your iPhone or iPod Touch:

  1. On your iPhone or iPod Touch's home screen, select Settings -> Mail.
  2. Select Add Account...
  3. Select Other.
  4. Select IMAP or POP (IMAP will sync all your mail folders whereas POP will download only from the Inbox).
  5. Complete the following fields:

Name: Your First and Last Name.
    Address: Your full email address.
    Description: Whatever you want.

    Incoming Mail Server (POP3)
    Host Name: mail.yourdomain.
User Name: Your full email address.
    Password: Your password.

    Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP)
    Host Name: mail.yourdomain.
User Name: Your full email address.
    Password: Your password.
  6. Save the configuration.

Other Important Information:

  • POP3 does not sync your mail it only downloads it from the server. If you send or move mail around in your iPhone it will not be duplicated on the server. To Sync mail use IMAP instead of POP3.
  • yourdomain refers to whatever your domain is. For example, if your email address is rich@mycoolstuff.com then you would use mail.mycoolstuff.com.
  • Your User Name must be your full email address.
  • If you are unable to send email we recommend you use the :366 at the end of the Outgoing Host Name. For example the Host Name would be: mail.yourdomain:366.
  • You may also find that not using the :366 works as well. This depends on your iPhone service provider. Try both.
